Our Toyota team at Knaresborough were excited to be part of the unveiling event at RHS Harlow Carr for their exciting ‘Greening Grey Britain’ installation.
The Royal Horticultural Society are spurring people on to make a commitment to transform their grey spaces into thriving spaces. Benefits highlighted in this campaign include reducing flood risks, improvement in health and wellbeing and providing food sources for bees and butterflies.
The British Bumblebee population has declined massively in recent years meaning that we urgently need to look at ways to help protect them. It’s not just our honey supply that will be threatened, as bees are such fantastic pollinators, the decline could affect a lot more of our food chain. Planting high pollen and nectar plants in our gardens can be a small way to help. With on street parking not always an option it’s inevitable that some will need to use their front gardens for parking. At RHS Harlow Carr you can now see how it is possible to have the best of both worlds. We are excited and proud to be involved in this important campaign.
Here in the UK we have seen the massive impact that flooding can have, especially in the last few years. RHS Harlow Carr are keen to promote reduction in flooding as a key benefit of this campaign. RHS-commissioned polls in both 2005 and 2015 reveal that, compared to ten years ago, we now have three times as many paved over front gardens. Grassy gardens soak up rain but paving, tarmac and concrete are far less absorptive meaning that the quantity of rainwater running off an area can be dramatically increased by up to 50%. Fundamentally the rainwater needs somewhere to go so we need to consider better ways of solving our parking problems, RHS Harlow Carr have some fresh and colourful solutions for you.
We’re supporting RHS Harlow Carr give a great example of how people can brighten up their gardens. In addition to the provision of a hybrid fleet car for them we have dedicated a bold Toyota AYGO x-cite to stand permanently as part of their installation.
We are thrilled to be given the opportunity to encourage people to embrace a greener way of life and excited to see if we can create some more hybrid fans.
