The ‘Vantage Viking’s’ will be giving their all once again in the 9th Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge. The Rotary Clubs of Huddersfield and Wakefield Chantry put this event on each year on the Lake at Pugneys Water Park in Wakefield.

This event always attracts lots of people and has raised over £200,000 in its comparatively short history for local, national and international charitable causes.

Each team has a maximum of 16 paddlers and 1 drummer. Starting at 10am and continuing throughout the day to around 4pm the teams will race three times against the clock. The teams with the fastest times will then go forward to the grand finals which will consist of 4 or 6 teams.

The course will be approximately 250m long and start near the South bank of the lake. The teams will then cross the finish line in front of the Clubhouse.

Fancy dress or team outfits are highly encouraged and really add to the atmosphere on the day. There will be an additional prize for best outfitted team which will be judged by an independent adjudicator. We can’t wait to see what people have got in store for this.

Vantage have sponsored this event for several years and are proud to be able to do that again this year. We’ve yet again stepped up to the plate and are entering the race with the ‘Vantage Vikings’.

It’s all for a very special cause, the Pinderfield’s Neonatal Intensive and High Dependency Care Unit. This specialist unit at Pinderfield’s hospital enables the hospital to provide expert care for very ill newborn or premature babies from the local area.

Our team are ready and raring to get stuck in to this event and we hope to see some friendly faces there cheering us on!
