ŠKODA’s Octavia Scout has been designed for the modern, adventurous motorist who wants the confidence to go from the road to rugged terrain with no fuss. The car’s capability on less travelled roads is instantly clear, yet it’s comfortable during everyday commutes too.
The Scout is based on the standard Octavia Estate but with rugged characteristics designed for off-road challenges. Underbody protection shields the car from bumps or scrapes, and 17-inch 'Polar' alloy wheels give the car a sure footing. The front and rear bumpers, wheel arches and sills are unique to the model, and understated Scout badging confirms the place of the vehicle in the ŠKODA range.
Underneath the revised exterior is a cabin that's as practical as ever. This means a vast boot and masses of space for adult passengers in the front and rear. With the rear bench upright 610 litres of luggage can be carried and it folds down quickly to expand this to a cavernous 1,740 litres. Interior refinement is high too, best shown by the Alcantara and leather seats and a leather steering wheel.
A sophisticated Amundsen touchscreen satellite navigation system sits at the top of the centre stack to display direction prompts and audio details, while the colour Maxi-DOT trip computer keeps you up to speed with all key journey details.
A choice of two engines are provided by ŠKODA, a 150PS or 184PS 2.0-litre diesel - both with four-wheel drive. The higher-powered unit can be equipped with DSG automatic transmission whilst the manual option returns up to 58.9mpg combined and emits only 125g/km of CO2.
As the Octavia Scout is intended to tackle gravel, snow, ice and mud it is equipped for optimum safety, unsurprisingly. The drivetrain and clutch adapt to these changing surfaces automatically to keep you in control, and various other active systems support you when on or off-road. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) incorporates a long list of these innovations such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), while lane assist is a no-cost addition to keep you out of trouble on the motorway. The experts agree that the Octavia is exceptionally safe, as Euro NCAP awarded the car an unbeatable five-star rating.
