Due to go on sale in 2020, the electric ŠKODA Citigo and Superb PHEV are the manufacturer’s first commercially available vehicles with a greener powertrain.
The Superb PHEV combines a turbocharged 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine with a gearbox-mounted electric motor and 13kWh battery to produce an output of 215bhp. The model is expected to lower CO2 emissions to under 40g/km and offer an electric-only range of 34 miles – plenty for shorter drives in and around town.
As of Autumn 2019, the all-electric Citigo is due to begin production. It's plans will see it use an electric motor which produces 81bhp and drives the front wheels. The high-capacity 36.6kWh battery will deliver a range of up to 165 miles and the immediate availability of torque means the model will be capable of a 0-62mph time of only 7.6 seconds, making for an impressive and exciting vehicle.
The year 2020 will also see the commercial production of the VISION E concept, which is built on ŠKODA’s modular platform for electric vehicles. The prototype, which was showcased in 2017, is an all-electric, all-wheel drive SUV that develops 301hp and incorporates autonomous driving technology. Like the concept, the production model is expected to offer a 310 mile range and a top speed of 111mph.
