Our team have decided this year that they want to focus their charity efforts on one key charity. In addition to their charity efforts our team are proud to announce that they have secured funding from Toyota GB, through the Toyota Fund for a Better Tomorrow scheme, for the charity which is a much needed boost for the charity.
In York, 3,570 children are living in poverty with 5,245 children classed as disadvantaged with almost seven times more poverty in the worst area of York than the National average.
The Island currently have 54 ongoing mentoring relationships with 73 young people waiting for mentors. These statistics really bring home the fact that this is a cause that really needs our support. In addition to the extra funds that we hope to bring to the charity we'd love to see you all sharing the great work that this charity does in order to encourage more mentors to join their team and continue the good work they've been doing.
The Island York are a children's charity committed to improving vulnerable children's lives in the Yorkshire area. The charity provide mentoring and unique programmes to young people in order to build their confidence and unlock their potential as well as giving them the time and space needed for them to thrive. This not only improves the lives of the children involved but also gives a boost to the local community by reducing anti-social and criminal behavior. The charity matches their participants with carefully selected volunteer mentors who make a commitment to meet regularly with those children over the course of a year. The charity provides training and support for those volunteers to ensure that they are able to support these vulnerable children.
Among our other fundraising efforts, within our centre, we are going to be taking to two wheels for a mighty 50 mile charity ride from York to Whitby.
Our team will set out on the 15th of May from Vantage Toyota York taking on some of the steepest hills in England. With a support van following the team, we hope to be able to follow their progress on our social channels. The team is comprised of
Our team have set their sights on a £2,000 total but we'd love to be able to smash that, enabling the charity to help more young people, raise awareness of this invaluable local resource and help to make a difference in our local community.
We have 10 'sticker' spaces available on our support van with spaces costing between £100 and £200 (or more if you can!) which we will be selling off to our supporters. Your logo will then be pasted onto our van so that you can come along for the ride too! We are hoping for exposure in the local news outlets too, showing who's supporting this worthy cause and our fantastic team.
Our confirmed riders include; Tim Swindin, James McGlashan, Andy Moss, Tom Wash, Mark Taylor, Marcus Thandi
Want to sponsor our team? We have set up a JustGiving page for you to make donations to the cause with all money going directly to the charity. Follow the link below to donate. You can also help out by sharing our posts on our social channels to get our journey out to a wider audience.
We'd like to thank you all in advance for your support. If you want to find out more about what we're getting up to then Steve Butler from our fleet team will be more than happy to give you the lowdown.
