Vantage favourite, James Dorlin, has had a busy first season racing in the Renault Clio Cup with an astonishing two wins and 7th place overall in the Championship, a great achievement for his first Clio Cup. His Vantage sponsored car has seen him make some incredible steps in what promises to be an impressive driving career.
All that hard work has got to have some benefits right? James was lucky enough to be invited along to spectate at the Dayinsure Wales Rally GB and we were eager to see how he got on.
We couldn't let James go without being properly equipped which is why his first port of call was Vantage Toyota Leeds to pick up his vehicle of choice for the weekend. The Toyota Hilux.
The Hilux was perfect for James' needs, suited for both work and play, with toughness and durability as its core values it's ideal to take on the Welsh landscape and James was raring to put it through its paces.
Once the keys were handed over it was full speed ahead towards Bala in North Wales where James then set up camp for the evening.
It was an early start for James to catch stage 9 of the rally. First, they had the WRC cars which was closely followed by the WRC2 classification which are of a slightly lower classification but none the less exciting.
James managed to capture some footage for us of the ŠKODA Motorsport team who ended up taking a comfortable win in the WRC2 part of the Championship.
Midway through Saturday James took on the road again to head to Cholmondeley Castle to catch stage 14. Once James arrived he headed for the Toyota stand to see what was going on.
Toyota have been big supporters of RallyFest across the years and this year was no different. James has a great look around the Toyota Gazoo Racing stand where he had a good look around the Toyota Corrola Rally Car from the late nineties which has quite a bit of history with the Welsh rally.
Up bright and early James caught the first run of the WRC cars at 8.00am and managed to catch the second too followed by the WRC2 cars which included the ŠKODA Motorsport team from the video above.
James was thrilled to catch the action from Toyota Gazoo Racing team, Hyundai Motorsport and the Citroën racing team. There were some impressive performances across all the whole weekend from all competitors but obviously we were thrilled to hear that our manufacturers had great weekends all round.
With the Welsh rally being considered one of the most challenging of the FIA World Rally Championship is great to find that the drivers all consider the British stage one of their favourites.
We were really fascinated to get James' take on RallyFest and were avidly watching his InstaStory from the event. It’s great to work so closely with James as he progresses his career in motorsport and for us to be able to solidify out commitment to supporting the sport in whatever way we can.
We look forward to reporting on more events in the motorsport calendar with James at the helm in the rear future. We're certain that 2018 is going to be a year to remember as James goes forward into his second year in the Renault Clio Cup.
