The original and still the best, the Prius full hybrid powertrain has undergone extensive revisions to improve efficiency, reduce weight and sharpen performance. The new Prius will also be the first model to use the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) – which revolutionises the way new Toyotas are built and how they look and feel on the road. This new platform results in more dynamic capabilities thanks to its lower centre of gravity and better stability. The Prius will be more rewarding to drive, with smoother and more responsive acceleration, as well as being quieter at higher speeds.

Toyota designers have also capitalised on the creative opportunity the TNGA provides to produce a Prius that is rich in visual appeal. Black C-pillars create the illusion of a floating roof, while the sporty stance is enhanced by a lower roofline, bonnet and sleek proportions. At the front and rear, distinctive LED lights give the Prius a pioneering look. Whereas the exterior is sharp and dynamic, inside the new Prius is all about peace of mind. The design of the dash is simpler and more harmonious, and the new TNGA offers improved visibility and driving position. Improvements to noise, vibration and harshness have been a major focus during development, which helps create a luxury feel. Safety remains a priority, with the TNGA chassis optimised for excellent impact performance. Plus, the new Prius will feature the Toyota Safety Sense active technology package as standard.
